Petit Verdot Vertical Tasting

  • Valley Road Vineyards 9264 Critzer Shop Road Afton, VA, 22920 United States (map)

CEO Stan Joynes, General Manager Grayson Poats, and Sommelier Alyson Muff will take you on a journey, beginning with the provenance of this “noble Bordeaux” varietal. They will answer the burning question: why France requires Petit Verdot be used exclusively in blended wines.

You will learn how conditions in the vineyard contributed to the characteristics of each of the six Petit Verdot vintages you will taste. They will then lead you through the techniques of approaching, tasting, savoring, and comparing these beautiful and full-bodied wines, as you enjoy a menu of delectable hors d'oeuvres designed to enhance the tasting experience.

This is a rare opportunity to taste VRV’s 2014 Petit Verdot, a Gold Medalist in 2017 Virginia Governor’s Cup / Governor’s Cup Case Wine, and vintages from 2015, 2016 and 2017 that have been placed in our Library and are available only during this special event.

In addition, you will be tasting our 2018 Petit Verdot which is currently served in our tasting room, along with our unreleased 2019 Petit Verdot.

All wines will be available for purchase. (Note that there will be a bottle purchase limit on certain wines.)
